In this project, we had to write memoirs in humanities about an important moment/person in our life. In physics, we had to record our memoirs and add music and sound effects that would go with the mood of it. In order to get us used to mixing and blending sounds together, Mrs. Quinny assigned us a mixtape assignment where we had to pick 10 songs that had a meaning to us and blend them together. We learned about sound waves and how sound is produced by visiting Studio West of San Diego which is a recording studio and they also produce music that are used in movies and video games.
Physics Concepts
Throughout this project, we learned many things about waves. We learned about frequencies, velocities, and wavelengths and how you're able to solve for them using triangle math. We learned about the two different types of waves which is Transverse Wave and Longitudinal Wave. Transverse Wave - points on the wave more perpendicular to the direction of motion. Ex: ocean waves Longitudinal Wave - points on the wave move back and forth in line with the direction of the wave Ex: Sound, shock waves I thought that the process of the project would be a little bit challenging, but it was quite easy.
Reflection
I am most proud of how my final memoir turned out because I think I put a lot of effort into making it fit the requirements, which was to make sure it was exactly 2 minutes under or a couple of seconds under that. At first, my entire memoir was around 5 minutes so I had to cut down a lot and try to make it fit. If there was anything I could change in this project, I would change the way I managed my time. I didn't use my time very wisely which resulted in me rushing to get my work done on time. I think that if I managed my time wisely, I would've been able to get more critique on how I could improve my memoir. For my memoir, I would want to talk slower and clearer. I felt as if I was speaking too fast and you couldn't really understand what was happening nor feel the emotion behind it.
Habits of the Heart and Mind
I have seen myself grow in perseverance because when it was three days to exhibition, I honestly had nothing done. I still had to record my memoir and add all of my sound effects. But even when I felt pressured to get my work done, I didn't stop, I kept working and working to get my work done and finished on time. I felt very pressured to get it done on time since it would affect my grade if I didn't finish it. At school, and at home, I was constantly working on my memoir to get it done.
I think I have improved on cooperation because during critique, I feel as if my critiques have gotten a lot better since I became more specific and helpful when giving feedback to my peers. Also, I've seen myself improve on working with peers and getting feedback from them. Like when we had to work with seniors, they gave me a lot of good feedback and really did help me with what I needed help with, and that was able for me to shorten it and make it fit for the two minute mark. I also think that I improved on giving feedback. I think that a helpful piece of critique was one time I wrote, "Maybe you could add your mom talking instead of you to add more voices into your memoir and so it adds more feeling to it."
